CalBar Privacy Policy
Effective: July 28, 2026 · Operator: 2809826 Alberta Inc.
CalBar is a personal Android app for logging food, workouts, and weight. This policy describes what
the app stores on your device and what leaves your device when you use optional online features.
Data stored on your device
- Food log entries (calories, macros, names, timestamps)
- Workout history, templates, and exercise notes
- Weight entries and optional progress photos you save in the app
- App settings (targets, display options, notification preference)
- Your Gemini API key, encrypted with Android Keystore when you choose to add one
CalBar does not create user accounts. Data stays on your phone unless you export it (food CSV or
a ZIP archive with food, weight, and workouts) or use features below that contact third-party services.
Data sent to third parties (only when you use those features)
-
Google AdMob — On the Free plan, CalBar shows banner ads. Google may collect
advertising identifiers and device information under Google’s ad policies. Pro and Pro AI remove ads.
-
Google Play Billing — If you subscribe to Pro or Pro AI, purchase status is
handled by Google Play.
-
Google Gemini — If you add your own Gemini API key, food or weight photos you
choose to analyze, and some text food queries, are sent to Google’s Gemini API under your key and
Google’s terms. Pro AI subscribers may instead use CalBar’s proxy (operated by 2809826 Alberta Inc.
on Cloudflare), which forwards the same request types to Gemini using CalBar’s key. Rate limits apply.
-
Open Food Facts — Barcode scans query world.openfoodfacts.org for product
nutrition data. Barcodes and product metadata are sent; no account is required.
CalBar does not operate a user account system for your food log. Local logs stay on your device unless
you export them or use the optional online features above.
Permissions
- Camera — barcode scanning and optional photo capture
- Notifications — optional persistent status-bar progress display
- Internet — ads (Free), barcode lookup, billing, and optional Gemini requests
Retention and deletion
Delete individual entries in the app, export then delete data via CSV, or clear all app data in
Android Settings → Apps → CalBar → Storage → Clear data. Uninstalling removes local data.
Children
CalBar is not directed at children under 13.
Health disclaimer
CalBar provides estimates for personal tracking. It is not medical advice and is not a medical
device. Consult a qualified professional for health decisions.
